MUMBAI: The Bombay high court has directed an inquiry against an assistant inspector from Thane's Economic Offences Wing for allegedly threatening an advocate in a courtroom.
The incident took place on February 13 when Justice Sadhana Jadhav was to hear the anticipatory bail plea of Amar Korgaonkar, an accused in a multi-level marketing fraud. While the court waited for the prosecutor, assistant inspector Suresh Kadam told instructing advocate Shirish Dhawale in Marathi: "I had not made Amar's wife an accused, but you are forcing me to make her an accused." Dhawale filed an affidavit stating this.
After the hearing, senior counsel S R Chitnis informed the judge of what had happened. In her order, Justice Jadhav said, "There is no reason why this court should disbelieve the advocate as he is the officer of the court. There was no reason for the advocate to concoct a case against the investigating officer."Kadam, who was summoned to the court, denied the allegation. Government pleader Sandeep Shinde assured the court such incident would not repeat. The judge directed the copy of the order be sent to the superior authority to take note of it "seriously and take action accordingly".
Justice Jadhav directed the DCP to submit the inquiry report on March 5.
