What is Inter-operable Criminal Justice System?

SHIMLA: With the introduction of information and communication technology (ICT) in judicial courts, Himachal Pradesh High Court has become one of the first high courts in the country to provide court case details and other key judicial information in public domain. Now, the listing of a freshly filed case in the high court is ensured within seven court working days.

Also, the practice of generating the next hearing date automatically through the Case Management Information System, has been replaced with the earlier used List of Business Information System .

Himachal Pradesh is among the top three best performing high courts, as far as implementation of the e-courts project is concerned, officials informed. They added that the litigants can now access the website of the high court and acquire details of the cases either pending or disposed at the high court as well as 100 district and sub-divisional courts in the state as 100 out of the total 118 district and sub-divisional courts have so far been covered under the e-Courts Mission Mode Project, sponsored by the department of justice, Government of India. They added that litigants and advocates are now being daily informed through email about filing, registration, listing and disposal of their court cases. One can now check online and search the status of a case and get details about dates, applications in the case, connected matters, orders and judgments. This facility can be availed even if complete details of the case are not known.

The HC is also working with state police department and National Informatics Centre on a pilot project called Inter-operable Criminal Justice System, aiming to integrate and exchange common nature data between courts, police stations, jails and forensic science laboratories of HP.

Litigants can now access the website of the HC and acquire details of the cases either pending or disposed at the high court as well as 100 district and sub-divisional courts in the state.
