Using Evernote to expand your brain

"Evernote is one of the most awesome bits of software ever made."

Yes, I said that. And I meant it. Evernote is a note-taking app you can take everywhere with you. Put it on your phone, your tablet, your computer, and use it on the web. Evernote recognizes text in everything you add to it (although office documents like Word files and PDFs require the premium version) so that you can search everything.

What for? Here are some of the ways I use it:
  • Take photos of business cards instead of accumulating stacks of them (you can use Evernote's Hello app for this, too), and add notes to add context.
  • Get better at wine by snapping photos of labels and tagging each bottle goodor bad.
  • Attach meeting materials to a note, then take notes at the meeting. (This is what I do for board meetings, for example.)
  • Snap photos of receipts instead of stuffing them in your wallet.
  • Capture readouts of scales and blood-pressure monitors, prescription labels, jot down workout summaries, and other health-related things.
  • Collect notes for blog posts.
  • Shopping lists.
Gyi just posted a round-up of Evernote tips, resources, and ideas. There is also anEvernote thread in the LAB. Share your tips and tricks, or ask questions about how to use Evernote more effectively.
