If This Then That (IFTTT): Connecting The Web One Recipe At A Time

If This Then That (IFTTT) is a service software that lets the Internet do your work for you by connecting major sites across the web, such as Gmail, Dropbox, Facebook, Evernote, and more. The way IFTTT works is by taking a trigger (if this) and connecting it to an action (then that) on another site. This is known as a personal recipe.

Here are some examples:

1. When you add a new photo on Instagram, a photo file is added to Dropbox.
2. Every time it is threatening to rain, receive a text message.
3. When the temperature reaches 80 degrees, turn the fan on at home (to keep the dog cool!)

Creating your own personal recipes is incredibly easy to set up. Once you make an account, select your “If this” from over 50 channels (websites) and hundreds of triggers, such as receiving an email with an attachment. Next, select your “Then that” channel and trigger, and your personal recipe is ready to run!

IFTTT is constantly adding new channels, meaning its convenience is constantly improving. There are countless recipes to create across the web, and each one saves time and makes your life a lot simpler, whether you’re a working professional trying to increase efficiency or a social media fiend tired of manually updating Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Foursquare at once.
